The crankshaft repair process has been simplified by RA Power Solutions with the minimum amount of engine downtime possible by the introduction of lightweight, compact onsite crankshaft polishing equipment. The engine block is used to insert the polishing and grinding machine, and the crankpin is polished. The onsite crankshaft grinding and polishing machine is capable of maintaining a surface finish better than the international standards, i.e., 0.2 RA value.

The failure of the crankpin or main journal bearing is common which damages the crankpin and main journal diameter of the crankshaft.

The following are the main observations in the case of the failure of the bearing:

  1. Development of taper & ovality on crankpin & main journal diameter.
  2. Dent, bearing line marks, and a rough surface are observed on the pin.
  3. In case of a severe accident, the bearing material gets heated and sticks to the crank pin or main journal diameter.
  4. Due to overheating, the crankpin becomes black/ blue, and hard spots are developed.
  5. The failure of the bearing also causes the development of cracks.
