Every crankshaft requires grinding and polishing. We are giving below a few reasons for the requirement of crankshaft grinding and polishing:

  1. Although manufacturers make crankshafts from forged steel, continuous running causes the crankpin and main journal to develop taper and ovality beyond the engine manufacturer’s limits. To remove excessive taper and ovality, we grind the crankshaft. If the ovality is minor, we polish the crankpin and main journal instead.
  2. Bearing line marks, pitting, and rough surface is observed. The reason can be poor quality of lubricating oil used, non-replacement of lubricating oil filters on time, poor quality of bearings, etc. The crankshaft polishing is recommended in case the bearing line marks and pitting are observed.
  3. Seizure of bearing on crankpin or main journal of the crankshaft is common. In some cases, bearing material embeds on the crankpin and main journal. We recommend grinding and polishing the crankshaft to remove the material. This process also controls taper, ovality, surface finish, and other parameters according to the engine manufacturer’s specifications.
