We repair, grind, and polish cylindrical shafts or crankshafts up to 700 mm in diameter, used in compressors, diesel engines, pumps, and all types of rotary equipment.</p>
<p>The crankshaft repair process has been simplified by RA Power Solutions with the minimum amount of engine downtime possible by the introduction of lightweight, compact onsite <a href="https://www.marineengine.in/blog/2019/06/12/hand-polishing-of-crankshaft-journals-consequences-of-hand-polishing-crankshaft-grinding-equipment-ra-power-solutions/"><strong>crankshaft polishing equipment</strong></a>. The engine block is used to insert the polishing and grinding machine, and the crankpin is polished. The onsite crankshaft grinding and polishing machine is capable of maintaining a surface finish better than the international standards, i.e., 0.2 RA value.</p>
<p>The failure of the crankpin or main journal bearing is common which damages the crankpin and main journal diameter of the crankshaft.</p>

<h2><strong>The following are the main observations in the case of the failure of the bearing:</strong></h2>

<li>Development of taper &amp; ovality on crankpin &amp; main journal diameter.</li>
<li>Dent, bearing line marks, and a rough surface are observed on the pin.</li>
<li>In a severe accident, heat causes the bearing material to stick to the crank pin or main journal diameter.</li>
<li>Overheating turns the crankpin black or blue and creates hard spots</li>
<li>The failure of the bearing also causes the development of cracks.</li>

<li>We inspected the hardness of all crankpins. The readings ranged from 590 to 650 HB.</li>
<li>We carried out an MPI test on the crank pins to detect cracks. The test showed no cracks.</li>
<li>We checked the deflection of the crankshaft. The readings were within limits.</li>
</ul>
<h4><strong>SUCCESSFUL REPAIR OF CRANKSHAFT OF YANMAR DIESEL ENGINE 6N18AL-DV:-</strong></h4>
<ul>
<li>We observed higher ovality ranging from 0.16 to 0.22 mm. Based on this, we decided to grind all the crank pins.</li>
<li>We ground all the crankpins undersize by 0.40 mm as per the manufacturer’s recommendation. The final size ranged from 144.58 to 144.60 mm. We maintained a maximum ovality of 0.02 mm..</li>
